Welcome to the Board of Directors of the Southwest Education Leadership Training Foundation. The Board plays a vital role in ensuring the Foundation fulfills its mission of supporting educational opportunities, leadership development, and charitable initiatives.
The mission of S.E.L.T.F. is to support educational advancement, leadership development, scholarships, charitable initiatives, and disaster relief efforts within the Foundation’s service area, primarily serving communities in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico.
The Board of Directors provides strategic leadership and oversight. Primary responsibilities include: setting organizational strategy, ensuring financial accountability, supporting fundraising efforts, ensuring compliance with nonprofit laws, and evaluating programs and initiatives.
Board members are expected to attend meetings regularly, prepare in advance by reviewing materials, and participate actively in discussions.
The Board is responsible for approving the annual budget, reviewing financial statements, ensuring proper internal controls, and monitoring fundraising and sponsorship efforts.
Serving on the Board of S.E.L.T.F. is both an honor and a responsibility. Through strong governance, ethical leadership, and active engagement, board members help ensure the Foundation continues to serve communities and advance its mission for years to come.
The purpose of this Policy is to protect the interests of S.E.L.T.F. when contemplating any transaction or arrangement that might benefit the private interest of a director, officer, or key volunteer. This policy supplements but does not replace applicable state and federal laws governing conflicts of interest for nonprofit and charitable organizations.
Interested Person: Any director, officer, or committee member with board-delegated powers who has a direct or indirect financial interest.
Financial Interest: A person has a financial interest if they or an immediate family member has, directly or indirectly: an ownership or investment interest in any entity with which the Foundation has a transaction; a compensation arrangement with the Foundation or related entity; or a potential ownership or compensation interest in any entity with which the Foundation is negotiating.
In connection with any actual or possible conflict of interest, an interested person must disclose the existence of the financial interest and all material facts to the Board of Directors as soon as the individual becomes aware of the potential conflict.
After disclosure, the interested person shall leave the board meeting while the conflict is discussed and voted upon. The remaining board members shall decide if a conflict exists. If confirmed, the Board shall investigate alternatives and may only approve the transaction if it is in the best interest of the Foundation, fair and reasonable, and approved by a majority vote of disinterested directors.
If the Board has reasonable cause to believe a member has failed to disclose a conflict, it shall inform the member and allow an opportunity to explain. The Board may take appropriate disciplinary or corrective action if necessary.
Board minutes shall document: names of persons who disclosed a financial interest, the nature of the interest, any actions taken, the Board’s decision, persons present for related votes, and the content of discussion including alternatives considered.
Each director, officer, and committee member shall annually sign a statement affirming they have received, read, and understand this policy; agree to comply; and understand the Foundation must operate consistent with its tax-exempt purposes.
This Agreement outlines the expectations, responsibilities, and commitments of individuals serving on the Board of Directors of S.E.L.T.F. Board members play a critical role in advancing the Foundation’s mission and ensuring strong governance and accountability.

The Corporate Sponsorship Framework provides a structured approach for developing partnerships with corporations, foundations, and philanthropic organizations that support S.E.L.T.F.’s mission. Corporate partnerships provide critical financial resources to support scholarships, leadership development, educational programming, disaster relief, and community outreach.
The Foundation will pursue partnerships through: corporate philanthropy programs, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, event sponsorships, and long-term strategic partnerships that create sustained educational initiatives.
Board members support sponsorship development by identifying potential corporate partners, facilitating introductions to corporate leaders, promoting Foundation initiatives within professional networks, and supporting sponsorship events and fundraising efforts.
Corporate sponsors should be recognized through public acknowledgment, event recognition, inclusion in Foundation publications, and periodic updates on program impact. Strong stewardship helps maintain long-term partnerships.

A foundation requirement for Kappa Alpha Psi chapters within the Southwestern Province to maintain annual certification in good standing.
This is a requirement for annual Chapter Certification compliance. Each chapter must donate $100 annually before the Chapter Certification deadline and upload the receipt to the IHQ Chapter Certification Portal to confirm this requirement of the Chapter Certification Process.
